Leadership: Serve and Protect the People

"No greater taonga (treasure) than the wellness of the people of the land and those expected to care for them had no greater obligation than to ensure its maintenance." - Moana Jackson

Ultimately, Māori leadership's role on this crucial issue, and any health issue, should be to serve the people well while also seeing that there is a real obligation to protect the people.

Greater leadership is particularly needed in the area of protection for the people from deadly products such as tobacco. The challenge for Māori leadership is to encompass all that 'He tāngata, he tāngata, he tāngata' means and actually put some action behind the words.

As the peak advocacy body for Māori, Te Reo Mārama aims to serve and protect Māori by providing an effective platform that supports the development aspirations for an Auahi -Tupeka Kore nation.
